I’ve just finished a 5 day walking holiday on the Tasmanian east coast’s Maria Island. The Island, with its dispossession and then convict stain, is quite developed and is a great experience but not a wilderness experience. Four years ago we walked for 10 days on Tasmania’s South Coast Track and for 3 consecutive days we did not see another soul. We had that sublime feeling of being inconsequential in the world and we were in wilderness.
