Is Albo so insecure in his support as leader that he allows Joel Fitzgibbon to dictate energy policy? Our two party-system means we must choose between ‘too dangerous to the climate’ and ‘a bit dangerous to the climate’. Call his bluff, Albo, let him suffer being ousted by his electorate if they are as self-interested as he is and let the party you lead campaign on what the climate needs.

And now for something completely different. It’s a few years since the Common Loudmouths (the name of our team, not a description of its members) competed in the annual Twitchathon. While extreme birdwatching is not for the faint-hearted, it is fun and a fundraiser for bird research. In these challenging times, all interactions with nature are keeping us sane, we’d better make sure we keep nature.https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-29/twitchathon-birdwatchers-race-the-clock-in-nsw-act-and-tasmania/12806686

Our policies (on emission reductions) won’t be set in any part of the world other than here, says the Pentecostal P M. Trouble is, the ‘here’ he refers to is not the Cabinet Room but the ‘Board Room’ – of a number of the resource companies that donate to the LNP. Where is that National Integrity Commission, limits on donations and real-time disclosure?https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-28/boris-johnson-scott-morrison-climate-change-bold-action/12817474

Brenda, the Civil Disobedience Penguin, has nailed it. An arctic death spiral might be more important but how could it hold a candle to an adorable kitten that cycles around Australia for charity. You have to be on the prowl at night to see our mammals, you more often hear rather than see our amphibians, go underwater to see our fish or wait until summer to see reptiles but birds? They’re the vertebrate that’s always there. Flying, fighting, foraging, preening, perching – they’re colourful, they’re doing something, some are obvious, some only appear after you’ve searched. Their nests are there to be discovered, their calls range from melodic to raucous, birds enrich our lives. Where, oh where, is the National Integrity Commission? Funding without applications (Great Barrier Reef Foundation), funding without investigations completed (FNQ HELE coal plant as below) and just plain dodgy investigations (Michael Sukkar branch-stacking investigation being carried out by his old law firm). There’d be years to eat away at the massive workload it would have.https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/coal-plant-grant-funded-before-key-report-finalised-or-published-20201020-p566z0.html
