Brenda, the Civil Disobedience Penguin, blows the whistle or perhaps flaps her flippers, on the ‘omnicidal fossil fuelists’ who won’t be around in 2050. And that’s why they couldn’t care less about climate change when there is still money to be made in the coal, oil and gas sectors.https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/oct/29/net-zero-by-2050-is-just-snake-oil-we-need-an-actual-hold-it-in-your-flippers-zero
Is there anything the Pentecostal PM hasn’t botched? Hot on the heels of the humiliation and now resignation of Mr Speaker Tony Smith, the subterfuge against the French on submarines and then brandishing a brochure as the total summation of eight years of climate policy, we find the modelling on which the ‘responsible, practical action to achieve net zero’ can’t be released for us mere mortals to examine.https://reneweconomy.com.au/morrison-government-hasnt-finished-writing-net-zero-modelling-department-says/
I think there was more substance to Baldrick’s cunning plans than there is to the brochure brandished by the Pentecostal PM. What is galling is the seeming-acceptance by the Australian population that it is ok that the modelling on which the ‘plan’ is based can remain secret. Add to this secrecy “I don’t accept the premise/characterisation of your question” and “With respect, you are wrong”, now stock responses that go unchallenged by much of the MSM, and you see how shallow is our political conversation.https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/oct/27/scott-morrison-refuses-to-release-net-zero-2050-modelling-amid-condemnation-of-climate-policy
” … the world cannot afford a missed opportunity at COP26.” And what will Australia do, apart from brandish a brochure, sorry, a plan, that has fudged figures, billions to CCS, offsets that aren’t emission reductions and all sticky-taped by hope.https://theconversation.com/if-all-2030-climate-targets-are-met-the-planet-will-heat-by-2-7-this-century-thats-not-ok-170458
‘Net zero by 2050’ is not the main game, we’ll probably see by the numbers of consecutive extreme heats days this summer or in the next inventory of global biodiversity loss the nature of the main game. For all of the huffing, puffing and hot air from the Coalition over these last few weeks, to end up with an agreement‘in support of a process towards’ caring for the future of humanity and all other species is reprehensible. Keith Pitt’s new position versus a process and the planet, what is your choice?https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-26/nationals-net-zero-2050-keith-pitt-cabinet/100565422
The international delegates in Glasgow will be jubilant when the Pentecostal PM gets up to announce Australia has an agreed ‘process’ for discussing and possibly agreeing to net zero by …
Off List with an intriguing analysis on the state of environmental play. While not quite proclaiming the end of history, Guy Rundle’s article argues that environmentalists have won. There’re mopping-up battles still, but the war is over.https://edm.privatemedia.com.au/webmail/272522/1126259357/32852424dc7e4a6a6b0bb345e395df51802be33fcf9da79f5b86c2b820804c6b
When they are increasingly isolated, as even Their employer (likely just greenwashing) turns away, there’ll be no recanting from Kennedy, Bolt etc. It’s already a bit like the Black Knight with his arms and legs cut off – “just a flesh wound”, “I’ve had worse”, “come here and take what’s coming to you. I’ll bite your legs off.”https://www.theguardian.com/media/2021/oct/22/menzies-would-be-turning-in-his-grave-chris-kenny-rails-as-news-corp-turns-against-him-on-climate
