Narendra Modi, with his mate Gautam Adani chewing his ear, is increasing coal use in India, so there’s not much hope for real action to come from COP 27. Unfortunately, with our own behaviour on opening up gas fields, we are in no position to demand the ‘phase out’ that is required.https://apnews.com/article/science-business-india-united-nations-climate-and-environment-0db74fbab76933591b4a7d6e241a208d

When the market fails, government steps in. In this case, the market failure originated from a government failure, a Kennett Government failure (private sector paid too much, meaningful conditions weren’t imposed and goodness knows what else was in the sale contract). The Andrews government, which is longer-lived than the Kennett Government, is bringing back an SEC. Of course we are talking about the People’s Republic of Victoria, the Massachusetts of Australia, and a great place to live.https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/oct/22/daniel-andrews-plans-to-revive-the-state-electricity-commission-what-will-it-mean-for-victorias-power
