It’s not just self-indulgence that led to choosing this article today (I live on the Moonee Ponds Creek, 500 metres upstream from the start of the concrete), there’s a lesson here about environmental activism. A committed community working strategically and with persistence can bring about change. It’s worth getting involved!https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-10/concrete-creek-in-moonee-ponds-restored-after-community-campaign/100525776

Naming and shaming climate culprits

The fourth tranche of climate culprits includes Jennifer Westacott, head of the Business Council of Australia, smudge-faced accountant and troglodyte Senator for Queensland Matteo Canavani and the Pentecostal PM’s favourite and Christian Porter’s pilot Nev Power, the architect of the ‘gas-led recovery’.https://www.crikey.com.au/2021/10/08/climate-culprits-australias-worst-individual-offenders-the-final-three/Then there’s a dozen corporates, mainly resource companies but also including NewsCorp, beautifully and accurately described as ‘a suppurating tumour on Anglophone democracies’.https://www.crikey.com.au/2021/10/05/revealed-australias-worst-climate-culprits-corporate-edition/?utm_campaign=Weekender&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wkndr

Crikey names climate culprits 7 – 9. Keith Spence, chair of Santos and leader of the government’s Carbon Storage Taskforce, is pushing an increase in oil and gas production by 9% pa over 2020 to 2030. Support for the Paris Agreement, anyone? As a culprit, he’s right up there. Of Angus ‘Fantastic’ Taylor much has been written. Unfortunately, there’s no National Integrity Commission or there’d be more to write. And then Gina Reinhardt, mining magnate and model mum, funder of the comical Lord Monckton and dangerous misinformer Prof Ian Plimer. If only Australians would work for $2 a day, she’d make even more money to spread her climate denial.https://www.crikey.com.au/2021/10/07/climate-culprits-the-third-round/

Joining yesterday’s line-up of climate culprits Clive Palmer, Scott Morrison and Rupert Murdoch, here’s three more of the biggest. Add the former head of Santos and current chair of the Climate Change Authority (can you believe it?) Grant King, chair of Woodside Richard Goyder and their chief enabler Barnaby Joyce. What a blight on not just our nation, but on the global response to climate change.https://www.crikey.com.au/2021/09/28/australias-worst-climate-culprits-revealed/

This decision by Three ‘S’ Sussan, the Numerologist’s Friend, is offensive on so many levels. It’s flipping the bird to conference delegates at COP26, it’s rubbing young peoples’ noses in the Duty of Care issue, it’s telling the local community to rack off, it’s employing the drug dealers’ defence (if I don’t sell to you you’ll buy elsewhere and I’ll have lost a sale) and it’s even telling endangered Regent honeyeaters to find another place to live. She’d already have been before a National Integrity Commission if we had one over the dodgy real estate purchase travel claims that saw her sin-binned from the Turnbull Ministry.https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/oct/05/new-coalmine-mangoola-nsw-muswellbrook-approved-australia-environment-minister-sussan-ley

Now here’s a great descriptor for Angus ‘Fantastic’ Taylor’s approach – aggressive absurdity. “Incentivise and realise gas extraction projects”, worsen emissions and put you hand out and be given offset credits. I couldn’t have put things better than the man himself; “Fantastic. Great move. Well done Angus”. This reminds me of the Catholic Church selling indulgences with the sinner as an economic contributor. Please don’t stop sinning!https://reneweconomy.com.au/the-fossil-fuel-industrys-ccs-offsets-scheme-is-aggressively-absurd/

Off list. Regard for Berejiklian for much of her premier’s performance is overshadowing the fact the ICAC considers that she has had involvement in matters of corruption. How have we come to the consideration of corruption as a second order issue? Perhaps the wilful oversight of any number of dodgy deals by Federal Ministers has degraded trust to the level that not enough people even care any more?https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-03/geoffrey-watson-sc-defends-timing-icac-probe-gladys-berejiklian/100510076?utm_source=sfmc%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8B&utm_medium=email%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8B&utm_campaign=abc_news_newsmail_am_sfmc%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8B&utm_term=%E2%80%8B&utm_id=1743228%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8B&sfmc_id=220364890

Where does one begin with this numbskull? The Pentecostal PM’s absence at Glasgow is tantamount to raising his middle finger to the world. At least he won’t be there to tell everyone that we need coal and gas for when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow, that we’ll meet and beat our targets and that we believe in technology, not taxes.https://www.sbs.com.au/news/scott-morrison-confirms-he-s-unlikely-to-attend-un-climate-summit-in-glasgow/6649bcbf-6bcc-4ae5-8572-70e988624437
