You have to wonder at the politics of the decision by the LNP to scrap the 2030 emission reductions target. Many pundits have pointed out that they cannot return to government without winning back seats lost to the Teals and abandoning the 2030 target makes that extremely difficult. There aren’t enough outer suburban seats to compensate. Is it that the Nats are frog-marching the Libs to abandonment, is it that the Libs will fracture on climate if the nutters aren’t appeased, is it that they reckon the mainstream media will do their campaigning for them? What is going on?
