Re the Mineral Council’s coal ‘slime’ (journo’s word, not mine, but hmmm, what word would I use?), why would you pay a membership fee to belong to an organisation that told you that black is white, that coal can be clean and the past is still the future?

The hundreds of billions of dollars given as fossil fuel subsidies might not cut emissions as much as is needed but at least there’d be more money available to set against the costs of adaptation as a result of the CO2 we continue to dump into the atmosphere.

‘Humans need to become smarter thinkers to beat climate denial’ is based on the premise that climate-denying humans are ‘thinkers’. It seems that many of them are just ‘feelers’ and jump on to a plausible-sounding rationale for their emotional response to this wicked problem.

Canavan says we need the Adani jobs. I say we don’t need Canavan in his job. Blocking Adani is a no-brainer, absolutely needed for emission reduction efforts and for every other reason as well. It’s handy that the Feeney debacle is making Shorten think twice; if he had any principles he’d have come to this position himself.
