In the sciences the search has been on for decades for the Unified Field Theory, the theory of everything. Climate change is a sort of subset in that ‘everything’. We’ll have to change agriculture, building design and transport, to name just some things. Then in this case, things include natural disasters, vector-borne diseases and health-system overload.https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/national/2019/04/15/australia-health-system-climate-change/

Given the challenges the LNP have with EVs, hydrogen-fuelled cars will leave them flummoxed. Just wait until the Hindenburg gets a mention; Michaelia will be claiming that, under Labor, tradies will have to get dangerous airships.https://thenewdaily.com.au/life/auto/2019/04/13/hydrogen-fuel-car-australia/

For how long now has this turkey held back our nation? Allow me to paraphrase my dear old mater, may she rest in peace, who would say that there is none so blind as he who will not see.https://www.sbs.com.au/news/tony-abbott-not-convinced-by-so-called-climate-science

Thirteen articles here discussing the Adani mine and then a longer one discussing Adani. With, it seems, his unlimited access to Narendra Modi, and the sway he seems to hold particularly with the LNP, is he the chap to be given unlimited access to Qld’s groundwater?https://www.themonthly.com.au/issue/2019/april/1554037200/hartosh-bal/report-india-tracing-gautam-adani-s-ruthless-ambition?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=The%20Briefing%20-%20Thursday%2011%20April%202019&utm_content=The%20Briefing%20-%20Thursday%2011%20April%202019+CID_454d0c4df23c4678199fdc489f80719e&utm_source=EDM&utm_term=the%20monthly

Adaptation is largely place-based and place-managers, local government, have been at the forefront of adaptation. Local governments, organised into greenhouse and climate change alliances, have been delivering on adaptation when other spheres of government just shrugged. That I would say that, with my previous job, means little for the activity and its effectiveness – alliances deliver. Well done Rob Law and CVGA.https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/10/adaptation-is-the-poor-cousin-of-climate-change-policy

Change does indeed happen faster than you think, for there’s often not much change until there is! On a pond covered in lilies, the fronds double each day. It takes 29 days for the pond to be half-covered, how many more days for the pond to be fully covered?https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6010788/change-happens-faster-than-you-think/?cs=14245

Renewables are a much better bet for energy generation than Carbon Capture and Storage. The latter has no commercial operations anywhere, is always discussed in the context of ‘further research is needed’ and is a fig-leaf to allow the fossil fools to keep being foolish.https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2019-04/lu-raa040519.php

It seems that the Pentecostal PM is way ahead of us. I hadn’t realised that electric vehicles would end the weekend or that we’d have to buy really really long extension cords. The Chinese have over 2 million EVs, the US over 1 million. Now they probably don’t have weekends but I wonder how long extension cords are in those countries?https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/apr/07/shorten-wants-to-end-the-weekend-morrison-attacks-labors-electric-vehicle-policy

Installing a reflective or cool roof would have to be one of the simplest changes one could make. The roof functions absolutely normally as a roof, it holds the walls up, keeps the rain off and does all the things we want a roof to do. But wait, there’s more. Sitting under a reflective roof in summer helps you keep your cool so what’s with these dark grey tiles that are the go now?https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2019-04/uoo-rrc040519.php

When the weather comes on at the end of the news bulletin in Darwin, the temperatures for Dili, Jakarta and Manila are given. Nothing says we are part of Asia more than this daily reminder of the fact. A regular report of atmospheric CO2 levels would be similarly useful but for the fact that the daily difference might suggest that there was no issue. Creative minds, over to you.https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/apr/05/why-the-guardian-is-putting-global-co2-levels-in-the-weather-forecast
